The Middle Leadership Programme (MLP), designed and delivered by AISL Academy in partnership with Mr Andy Hind (Senior Consultant, Enhancing Learning Ltd.), supports serving and aspiring middle leaders to develop high-impact leadership practice.
Over the course of the programme, participants engage in evidence-informed professional learning that builds leadership capacity, strengthens existing expertise, and develops the skills required to drive improvement and enhance outcomes for both staff and students.

- Aspiring middle leaders
Participants must be nominated and supported by their AISL Harrow school.
What you will learn:
The programme focuses on the key principles, practices, and processes that underpin successful middle leadership, including how to:
- Lead with clarity and purpose
- Prioritise effectively
- Drive sustainable improvement
- Maximise student outcomes
Application Process:
For people who are interested in applying for this programme, please:
- Reach out to your line manager to have a conversation and get support
- Get your nomination submitted by School Heads of Professional Development Leads
Nomination Deadline: Mid-September
Programme Delivery:
The programme consists of:
- Six core modules
- Mentor meeting
- Final presentation
Each of the six modules is delivered as a 2-hour twilight session (4:30–6:30 pm), either:
- Face-to-face, or
- Online (depending on the school context)
All appropriately nominated candidates will be accommodated where possible. Smaller school cohorts may be combined for joint (typically virtual) delivery.
Learning Approach:
Between sessions, participants will:
- Maintain a reflective journal to capture key insights, actions, and impact
- Apply learning directly within their current (or aspiring) leadership role
- Engage in structured reflection aligned with their professional development goals
The programme culminates in a reflective presentation demonstrating:
- Application of learning in practice
- Impact on leadership and outcomes
- Alignment with current performance management targets and future aspirations
This presentation is delivered to a member of the Senior Leadership Team or AISL Education Team.
Mentoring and Support:
Each participant is assigned an in-school mentor, who will:
- Provide guidance and feedback
- Support reflection and application of learning
- Meet regularly throughout the programme
Mentors are allocated at the start of the programme.

Participant Expectations:
Participants are expected to:
- Attend and actively engage in all modules and learning activities
- Maintain a reflective journal throughout the programme
- Apply learning within their context
- Engage with mentoring sessions
- Complete a final reflective presentation
Serving middle leaders should demonstrate impact within their current role, while aspiring leaders should focus on preparation for future leadership responsibilities.
Recognition:
Participants who successfully complete the programme will:
- Receive certification from AISL Academy
- Be recognised for their commitment to leadership development
- Be well-positioned for future leadership opportunities and accredited programmes (e.g. NPQs, IPCSL)
Post-Programme Commitment:
At the end of the programme, participants will develop a personal leadership action plan, which will be reviewed with their line manager at:
- 3 months
- 6 months
- 9 months
This ensures sustained impact and continued professional growth.
