Live Training Opportunity: Talk for Writing

Unlock the power of Talk for Writing! Explore Imitation, Innovation, and Independent Application to enhance oracy and writing skills, with insights into reading, grammar, and creative writing through hands-on activities.

About This Training

This training is recommended for:

  • Teaching and Learning Lead
  • Deputy Head Academic
  • Lower School English lead
  • Early Years Literacy Lead
  • Lower School and Early Year teachers

Session 1: Imitation (1.5 hours)
In this session, participants will learn about the importance of oracy and begin to look at the key principles of Talk for Writing. This includes cold and hot tasks, as well as internalising stories.

Session 2: Reading (1.5 hours)
In this session, participants will learn about the importance of contextualising grammar via the model text and continuing to look at the key principles of Talk for Writing. This includes ‘Reading as a Reader’ and ‘Reading as a Writer’.

Session 3: Innovation (1.5 hours)
In this session, participants will learn about short burst writing, shared and guided writing. This includes looking at how wider reading can be use to spark enthusiasm and ideas throughout this process.

Session 4: Independent application & invention (1.5 hours)
In this session, participants will learn about how students take their learning and show their understanding in the Independent Application. Delegates will also learn about Invention and the idea of free creative writing opportunities for all students.

By the end of this training, participants will have:

  • An understanding of the 3I’s: Imitation, Innovation and Independent Application
  • An understanding of the importance of reading to support writing
  • An understanding of Talk for Writing in Fiction and the sequence of learning
  • Interactive opportunities to “see” learning through a child’s eyes
  • Interactive opportunities to experience activities ahead of use in the classroom

  • Sessions 1 & 2: Monday, 9 December 2024; Time: 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. China time
  • Sessions 3 & 4: Tuesday, 10 December 2024; Time: 3:00 – 6: 00 p.m. China time
